Nobuta Wo Produce (2005)

Title:  野ブタ。をプロデュース(Producing Nobuta)
Genre: School Drama
Director: Iwamoto Hitoshi, Sakuma Noriyoshi
Starring: Kamenashi Kazuya, Yamashita Tomohisa, Horikita Maki.

I’ve just finished watching this drama for the second time (I watched it last year,  it's late, huh?). This really is one of my favorite Japanese dramas all time. I don’t exaggerate it. Eventhough you may have already watched it, I want to write a little thing a bout this drama. So, here it is. Eh, I apologize if the story or the language is in a mess. My mind isn’t well-organized right now.

It is the friendship of three high school students with different personality. Kiritani Shuji (Kamenashi Kazuya) is a popular student who gets along well with all people, be it students or teachers. Shuji is always nice to them and they like him. However, he just can’t stand one person: his classmate Kusano Akira (Yamashita Tomohisa). Akira always acts and talks funnily (or so I say, annoyingly?). He does thing such as waving his hands when going down the stairs and other silly things people wouldn’t normally do. Then comes Kotani “Nobuta”Nobuko (Horikita Maki), a transfer student who acts strangely. As Nobuko has no confidence at all, she becomes the victim of bullying. Shuji and Akira happen to save her. They listen to her story and decide to make her a popular student. First thing is Nobuko’s nickname and they agree on ‘Nobuta’. Soshite, the secret project “Producing Nobuta” has begun.

Since then, those three have worked together as a team. They gradually reveal their true self to others.  Shuji in fact wasn’t really open to his friends as he acted nicely just to make himself a popular student and enjoy his time. There’s one time that the classmates ignore and don’t believe in him. It is the other two who cheer him up and trust him no matter what. Realizing it, Shuji doesn’t care if nobody believes him. He just wants those two to believe.

Akira is a heir of a pretty rich family but is in disagreement with his dad. Despite his cocky act, Akira unexpectedly is physically strong and even fights his dad equally. He just doesn’t want to succeed the company. However, both father and son made up at the end. Akira is somehow a nice guy with deep affection for his friends. In his heart, Shuji and Nobuta are the most important. Akira himself is the second.

The reason why Nobuta couldn’t believe anybody is because of his step father. The man her mother remarried doesn’t allow her to call him father. Nobuta was so embarrassed when she did. That’s when she closed her self and used to being bullied. She in fact wants to make everybody happy.  Her wish is to become popular one day and gratefully thank Shuji and Akira for what they have done for her.

Being together, those three gradually make the best friends and become a better person than they used to be. How can I say, it’s a very amazing story for the theme friendship. Totemo omoshiroi desu ne…

Ah, my favorite quote of this drama is that written on the mirror in the haunted house which says,
“Right now, the person’s hand that you hold, the chance of you meeting that person is like a miracle. Even when you go into the light don’t let go of that hand.”

Bye bye cycle!

Wait! I’m having a comprehensive examination today. What am I doing?!
