"Birthday Song" by Carole King

(Hey, you, have a very happy birthday! ^^)

Happy birthday
Celebrate your day in style
Happy birthday
Tonight I want to see your smile
Your whole life is in front of you, you've only just begun
So happy birthday
The best is yet to come

Happy birthday to you
The good things I could say about you are infinite
But I will only take a minute
To say the world is a better place with you in it
With you in it

Happy birthday
You know just how to be
Happy birthday
I'm glad that you're with me
To know you is to love you,  to love you is to be blessed
So happy birthday
You deserve the best

Every time I ever reach out for you
You never let me down
Any time you're ever in need of a friend
I will always be around

Happy birthday
You are everything that's good
You are everything that matters
I would give you the world if I could
You will always be a part of me and all that I go through
So happy birthday, dear friend
May all your dreams come true
Happy birthday to you

MUNGKIN

Mungkin,
pagi ini tak sehangat hari kemarin
karena dedaun telah sempurna luruh
pepohon patuh pada tanah yang penuh.

Entah,
senja di sini tak lagi memerah
sebab embun telah mulai beku
bahkan hujan telah berganti salju.

Selalu,
gugur adalah musim yang aku tunggu
namun kini ia jua berlalu
pergi seiring putaran waktu.

Nanti,
hanya tinggal sebentar lagi
dan aku pun akan kembali.

Assalamu'alaikum semuanya :)

Well, I'm not totally back, honestly :D

Summer Day Out in Greater Manchester

Assalamu'alaikum ^_^ Apa kabar semuanya?

In Love with English Roses

Eid Story from Manchester

(Ayo ikutan #GiveAwayLebaran :))
Assalamu'alaikum...

Nggak kebayang aja nanti malam hari raya mau ngapain sendiri. Kan sedih...

The Then-White Greenfield

Since it's summer already, I want to share some pictures back from the snowy days. Hopefully seeing these whitey ice can help cool the hot days :D

This Is the Summertime

Summer is here everybody!

Akhirnya 'clear sky' juga hadir di Manchester! Bukan lagi cuma 'a mythical state of weather that you've heard about but only ever seen abroad', haha.

Walhasil, udara jadi begitu lembab dan gerah yang diperkirakan sebagai 'the hottest in nine years'.

Ramadhan Kareem

Maybe, it is a little (too) late to write that title. Then again, better late than never, eh? :D

This is my first ever Ramadhan away from home. First ever fasting for 19 and half hour. First ever missing meugang. First ever... In fact, my being away this year has given me a whole new life experience. It's good and I'm honestly grateful for that. But still, I can't help feeling sad for not seeing my parents on the first night of this holy month :(

Life is made up of choices, isn't it?

Ramadhan Mubarak everyone! :)

What's for Dinner?

Postingan singkat sambil menunggu waktu Isya. Saya mau pamer menu makan malam hari ini :D By the way, ini sudah pukul 11 p.m. lho, tapi belum Isya juga (Magrib aja udah setengah sepuluh).
Berhubung sedang malas masak, jadi dinner saya malam ini simpel saja:
A bowl of fruit salad with yogurt

Tapi setelah dilihat-lihat, kok kayaknya ga bakal kenyang ya...

A smiling fruit bowl and spaghetti with tuna sauce

I was surprised I could finish all that.
Itu aja, ga penting emang :D So, what did you have for dinner?
Have a very nice weekend! (I'm going on vacation! Hehe)

White Edensor

Promoting Peace and Friendship with RocketWorld

So, there's this event called RocketWorld which is organised by The International Society of Greater Manchester. I've just known about it two days ago when my friend asked me to be a volunteer. Why not? I thought. I have plenty of free time, anyway.

The Volunteers
On Tuesday at 7 a.m. we made our way to Maxwell building, spending about thirty minutes walking in the showering rain. A black cab picked us up at 8 a.m. and I met two other girls from Saudi Arabia and Greece. The cab drove us to International Society office where Sam, the coordinator, greeted us. There were also Manuel from Spain, Vasiliki from Cyprus, Yidnek from Ethiopia, and three other Chinese volunteers.

The event involves going to primary school around Greater Manchester and Liverpool and introducing the countries to the pupils. Each volunteer represent their countries and the kids would come and ask things about that country. There's also an enormous earth ball set up in the middle of the hall which is the most attractive thing to the kids.

Yesterday's event was held at Webster Primary School. It was my first time and I enjoyed it to the heart. It was tiring as the pupils were so eager to learn and asked so many questions, yet it was so much fun at the same time. I got to tell them about the thousands of Island we have, endemic fauna and flora, as well as taught them how to play Lompat Tali which they enjoyed so much! :D

I definitely want to participate again in the near future, insha Allah.

Nice Quotes from "Only Dad"

Saya selesai membaca satu novel karya Alan Titchmarsh berjudul 'Only Dad' beberapa waktu lalu.

Anybody's Missing Me?

So, here I'm back again. Not really sure anyone has visited this blog ever since my last post but yeah, why should people come when nothing's offered?

No post for the previous month, eh?
I was so busy with my life -well, maybe not- that when I came back to reality a month has passed without me posting anything on this blog. I did intend to at least post one single entry each month -like I did in March, deliberately- but somehow I didn't manage to do it.

Let's see, what I've been doing the last several weeks: I got three weeks break for Easter, went to a short vacation and had to hand in my research project on 24th. Then the class resumed and things just back to normal.

Not that I don't know what to write. I have a list containing mixed topic with the most obvious one is UKtrip. Sometimes I just hold myself back. How to put it, I don't want people to read me like an open book. This particular idea just come to me at times that I want to be a little bit mysterious, like the certain someone I know. It seems fun, to be able to enjoy yourself without being distracted by the virtual world.

But then again, I'm not gonna neglect this blog for the whole year. Will come back with a real post hopefully as soon as possible. Thank you for reading through this. I really appreciate that :)

Snowy Sheffield

The Town Hall, I guess...
Hello there! It's my UK Trip post again, featuring Sheffield.

Back in December 2014, the Acehnese living in the UK held an annual gathering known as Duek Pakat (DP) Rangkang Nanggroe in Sheffield. The event was held on 27 and 28 of the month and hosted by Bang Eddy and Kak Elly, an Acehnese Ph.D couple living in the town.

Leeds in Pics

I told you previously that the following post in UKTrip would be about Leeds. But it turns out that I don't have much to say about this city. All I remember is that we walked around the city centre and rode a bus to Roundhay Park. Therefore I decide to just post the pics instead.

Here they are:

York, the City of Walls

It's been four months since I became an M.Sc student in the United Kingdom. During that time I've been to several cities, both on weekends or breaks. I plan to write about the cities I've visited and thus create a new label for the post: UK Trip. The main purpose of the article is to remind myself that I've ever had the privilege to visit such great places. Alhamdulillah.

A gilmpse of York Minster
Let me start with York. I, together with my friend Ana and Kak Devi, visited this lovely city in the mid of November. We took the train from Manchester Oxford Road station in the early morning (it's 8 a.m. but the sun hadn't risen yet then) and arrived in York about one and half hours later. It was a foggy autumn day, very densely foggy in fact, to the extent that we thought we had chosen the wrong day to sightseeing.

Buildings Closed due to Water Failure

I woke up this morning (09/02/2015) finding an email on my tablet informing that some buildings on main campus (Cockroft, Newton -including the Muslim prayer room, the Annexe-, Lady Hale, Clifford Whitworth, and Chapman) have been closed owing to some circumstance regarding water supply. The lectures situated in affected buildings were either relocated or cancelled and the staff working there were advised to find another building to work from or work from home. Aside from the buildings above, two residence halls have also been affected (Horlock Court and Constantine Court, fortunately not Castle Irwell). The students living there can collect bottled water from University House. It amazes me that the university takes care of the matter so seriously, proving how essential the water is for our life.

I remember when I was living in a boarding school, situation like this happened most of the time. Our teachers and staffs also worked very hard to solve the problem. Luckily we had a river flowing near the campus so it became the reserved water source, though the water wasn't always as crystal clear.

Indeed, living things aren't able to survive without this colourless liquid.

I Dreamt of You!

Got this message via BBM today:

I am usually the one who do that: telling people that I see them in my sleep. Whenever I dreamt of someone -particularly the ones I hadn't seen for quite some time and considerably close to me- I would text them in the morning. I don't remember all dreams I have every night, nobody does, I think, but I can remember very clearly the ones with special characters in them. When that happened, I would send them a message like, "Hi... I dreamt of you last night. I hope you're doing fine." It's just that simple.

Wouldn't it feel nice to receive such a message? Knowing that there's someone - perhaps your old friend- who remember you? That's what I think. That's why I sent the messages.

I know, some people will find that awkward, strange, or even annoying. However, seeing certain people in my sleep is a good reminder for me that I haven't been much in touch with them in real life, which is not a good thing. In order to make up to that, I sent text messages or greetings via social media. Things will get much better if we can arrange for a meeting. But if we cannot, at least they know that I remember them.

Yet, I never get the message back. Therefore receiving it from my bestie really made day.

The same thing goes for finding a greeting text or chat on the hand phone upon waking up in the morning. Living in the other part of the world from my homeland means that when I am just about to go to sleep, most of my loved ones and friends have just begun their day. Sometimes I send random messages when it's midnight in Indonesia, so the receiver will see it in the morning (while hoping that I don't disturb the "victim's" rest time). I also like sending a greeting before I turn off my phone and go to bed. Again, I think it's very heartwarming to begin the day and find some greetings on the phone. It makes me feel that I'm not so alone.

So, I guess that's it.

Puisi Januari

Aku berdiri pada Januari
saat hijau menjadi putih
dan tetesan air menjelma salju
mencoba menuju padamu

Tapi Februari pun masih begitu

Mungkinkah kau bersedia berbalik arah
lalu mengulang langkah
menyusuri indahnya langit November
melalui sejuknya angin Oktober

melewati hari-hari.

A Little Update

Hello Everyone, it's been a long time! :D

So, here is a little update for those who care, haha.

I went back to my homeland, Aceh, on the 7th of January and didn't bring my laptop with me. That maybe explains why I didn't post anything. (Of course I could do it with the tablet or hand phone or my sisters' laptop but I just didn't. It's holiday, you know.) No particular reason for it. I just wanted to enjoy my winter break with the beloved family.

fresh from the tree
My parents were against me coming back at first, they said it was a waste of time and penny. However, who could resist this little girl's coming back? As I told them after booking my return tickets, haha, in the end, my father said, "Well, it's good having you back as we're harvesting the rambutans these days."

So that how it was. I came back and stayed at home for the whole first week. My activities differed slightly in the second week as I went to the rambutan gardens, met some friends (new and old), attended my bestfriend's marriage, and so forth.

On the 25th of January I flew back to my current city and now I am writing this post from my usual desk. I plan to post a real post shortly after. Yet I don't know how short is that 'shortly after', haha.

I REALLY HAD A VERY GREAT TIME BACK HOME ^_^
